Armchair Onslaught was built for the first ever Extra Credits games jam. Built in Unreal Engine 4 using 100% blueprints, Armchair Onslaught follows the theme of "Awesome Per Second" by being all action during gameplay. Being only in the ptototype stage by the end of the jam there is only one small level filled with development assets as creating a VR experience within a 48 hour period solo was a challenge in and of itself.
Being my first attempt at building a proper VR game this presented a fair few challenges. The main challenge was working with hand controllers and using them to control elements of gameplay as well as the UI. Working around these limitations and figuring out methods to interact with the world without using the default engine system helped me gain a great understanding of how VR games function as well as helping me find what makes a vr experience fun. The immersion of VR, even in a basic test scene with grey boxes helped playtesters enjoy the prototype and really cemented to me that VR experiences are a viable medium in the world of gaming.
